Joseph Teixeira de MattosThe Dutch artist Joseph Teixeira de Mattos (1892-1971) was born in Amsterdam, from a Jewish family of Portuguese origins. Under the influence of his fellow artists Jan Toorop and Jessurun de Mesquita, Teixeira became particularly interested in drawing, media that he thought had been neglected by the Impressionists. Moving to Paris in 1938, and especially a trip to Spain of 1953, made of Teixeira de Mattos an independent artist. At every trip to Spain that he took, the artist returned to Paris with a portfolio full of new inspiring drawings. This drawing records one of the artist's favorite holiday destinations.

José Teixeira de Mattos initially attracted many self-portraits, including his brother and their parents have represented several times. He also drew many urban landscapes, but his passion was for drawing.
